One can easily take for granted the laborous process that goes behind the beautiful mosaic tiles that can be found all over Morocco. This workshop was one of the most memorable activities for my group during our stay in Marrakech. We were taken to an area only known of by wholesalers and designers; we were then shown the entire process of making Zellig tiles: from marking, to cutting, to assembling. What an arduous journey to master! The art masters could not be more modest and helpful. You even came home with a piece of art of your own making. 5 stars *****
My mother and I had an absolutely fabulous time at the Zellig tile workshop. Hassan was an incredibly passionate and knowledgeable guide, from driving us to and from our riad, explaining the architecture and neighbourhoods along the way, to showing us the different styles of tiles present (Berber, Jewish, Arabic etc.) in the artisanal workshops where our class was situated.
We were met with kindness and patience from the artisans as they gave us as insight into their craft, despite a lack of shared language.
Experiencing the labour-intensive and complicated process of tile-making gave us new appreciation for this art-form. And we couldn’t have been happier with this workshop or the tiles we came away with! The mint tea and pastries provided throughout were also greatly appreciated!
I cannot recommend this mosaic workshop enough. It was my absolute favourite activity here in Marrakech. Learning about the skilled process from artisans, with Hassan enriching the journey with his knowledge and encouragement was a day well spent.
Hassan took us to a district of Marrakech with many mosaic workshops side by side, explained the history and showed us the traditional clay ovens used to bake the tiles. We then spent a morning in one of the workshops alongside master craftsman carrying out their time honed skill, and were guided through the process with kindness and patience. It was wonderful to experience both this and the different pace of life and has fuelled my life long passion for mosaics even further (if that is possible).
Hi everyone outhere who is looking for new adventures. This is definitely the right place to look. Hasan is a good guide for your trip in Morocco especially if you want to do more than just regular touristic atractions. I’d definetly recommend the zellige workshop, it was so much fun and everyone was so helpful. You’ll see how difficult it should be to built all this historical places in Morocco and respect more.
The tile workshop was one of the best experiences of our Morocco trip. It offers a unique opportunity to get an authentic glimpse into the daily work and craftsmanship behind the beautiful mosaics you see all around the Medina. We weren’t placed in a separate room or set-up — instead, we were right in the middle of the actual workshop, working side by side with some of the most experienced tilemakers in the city. Hassan also took us to several other artisan workshops, like pottery, to show us where many of the souvenirs sold in the souks are made. Don’t hesitate to book this incredible experience with Hassan!
This was a fun experience !! It fun to get out of the shopping areas and see many authentic artisans, and their workshops. It was very well organized, and Hassan is a very knowledgeable and enjoyable guide! He knows a lot about the art and history and architecture of Morocco and answered all of our questions. I am very glad I did this!
I have done this workshop twice and it’s a must on the many things to do in Marrakech. The appreciation for the craft having seen how each and every tile is made, the craftmanship of the pillars, floors and fountains to name a few when you leave will change for ever and you have a totally new perspective. The patience and love of this craft is evident, the team are so friendly and kind. I commissioned the most beautiful fountain for my garden and it transports me back. Thank you Hassan for this wonderful gem of an experience.
We had the pleasure of attending a traditional tile workshop in Marrakech, and it was one of the highlights of our trip.
What made this experience exceptional was the opportunity to learn directly from master tile makers—true artisans who have been perfecting their craft for generations. Their skill, patience, and passion for the traditional art of Zellige, Moroccan mosaic tilework, were nothing short of inspiring. I came away not only with a beautiful handmade tile of my own but also with a deep appreciation for Moroccan art and heritage.
I would recommend this tile workshop in Marrakech to get an insight into the heart of a Moroccan tradition.
“This was the best experience we had in Marrakech! Hassan met us at our Riad, shared great insights along the way, and made us feel so welcome. At the workshop we enjoyed tea before Sadeq, the master craftsman, patiently taught us how to cut, place, and create our own tile piece. We left with a beautiful souvenir and unforgettable memory. Hassan was such a thoughtful and lovely host. He’s very passionate about connecting visitors with the master craftsman and helping paint the picture of how much time, skill, and energy goes into their work. Highly recommend this workshop and any of Hassan’s experiences!”

Hassan’s joy in sharing and introducing us to local tile artisans/masters, and their work is palpable in every aspect of this experience. From start to finish, my group enjoyed learning about the local culture, exploring areas that tourists would never make it to/ visiting masters in their studios, and working with these masters to create something beautiful. This experience gave us new insight and appreciation into the hard work and mastery that goes into the tilework you see around Marrakech (and beyond). This was one of the best experiences my group has had so far, while in Marrakech. I would recommend to anyone and everyone!
Highlight of our Marrakech trip! Hassan picked us up from our hotel and took us to the tile workshop while telling us about the history or Marrakech and tile design. He is so friendly and welcoming that you really feel at ease with him. The workshop is fascinating and takes you through each stage of the tile mosaic production, finishing with your handmade tile to take home! He also served mint tea and a great selection of Moroccan sweets and dropped us back at our hotel once we were done. It was a real insight into the work behind the scenes that goes into working with tiles and the principles that are followed in traditional design. A great way to spend a morning or afternoon! Hassan is very knowledgeable about other places to visit in Marrakech and is full of recommendations. A must do in Marrakech from our perspective!
“This was a once in a lifetime experience, we never would have experienced the culture of marrakesh and the artisan craftsmanship the same way on our own. This isn’t just a “make a cute thing to take home” experience this was learning respect for the artisans from a completely different perspective and viewpoint. I highly recommend this tour as Hassan is more than willing to share his extraordinary wealth of knowledge about local culture, art and architecture. One million stars.”
Hassan is a fantastic host. The experience of Zellige tiles was so much fun. – obviously we were never going to get offered an apprenticeship as the skill they have is phenomenal, regardless they took time to show us and let us try these age old techniques with patience and kindness, coupled with good conversation, tea and biscuits which is the gold standard of Moroccan hospitality. It’s a great opportunity to get away from the crowds and have an authentic experience!
I would give the tile workshop with Hassan, Master Abdullah, and Master Sharif 1000 stars if I could. This was hands down the most unique, authentic, out-of-the-way experience we had in Morocco. The tile masters were INCREDIBLY skilled and so kind that I actually cried. It was amazing to see how the tiles and pieces we saw all over Marrakech have been made for centuries, and the fact that there are still artisans doing it all by hand was deeply inspiring. I wish we had found Hassan at the beginning of our trip, because he did an amazing job connecting us to the history, people, and art of Marrakech in a deeply personal way we didn’t find anywhere else in Marrakech. I cannot recommend these workshops highly enough. I promise you will not regret it.
Hassan is so much fun! We loved hearing all about Morocco on our way to make tiles. The tile making experience was incredibly cool – I definitely appreciate the talent of the artisans more, having attempted it! This is a very special experience and I highly recommend it, plus any other experiences Hassan offers. I will be bringing my friends back for this.
Such a unique experience learning how to make the tiles you see all over Marrakech. During the ride Hassan gave us a ton of history about Morocco and the art behind the city. At the workshop, we were able to learn how to trace, cut, and put together the mosaic tile. It is definitely a lot harder than you think it would be to make the tiles. I 10/10 would recommend this unique experience to anyone coming to marrakech. It was nice to get away from the hustle or the medina and see where all the pieces the sell come from and the people behind it!
It was an incredible, authentic experience, outside the tourist Marrakech. Hassan is a bubbly, knowledgeable and super qualified guide. The experience is richer than the description, you are served tea with lots of cookies, and what you take home is much more than a tile. The best experience in Marrakech, highly recommended!
This was one of the best things we had done on our trip! It was such a delight to meet the Maalem and all the people working in the workshop who were so skilled. We were able to try our hand at the whole process. Hassan was a fantastic host and super friendly and knowledgeable. We were made so welcome with tea and sweet treats and came away with our tiles. We had such an amazing time and are so grateful for the experience!
Quite an incredible experience – we spent our afternoon drawing then cutting tiles to form a mosaic pattern. We assembled the mosaic to make a unique tile which we got to take home. We also saw the large tables and fountains made from the same materials. Really stunning, really unique
This was a fantastic experience! Hassan took us to the workshop which is located outside the centre of Marrakech for a truly authentic experience. Here we had the chance to trace, cut and arrange the tiles- which was much harder than it looked! We also had some lovely mint tea and homemade treats which were very tasty. The whole experience is excellent for showing you the time, skill and craftsmanship which goes it creating such intricate designs. Would highly recommend this experience!!
A very unique experience learning about Moroccon tiles along with a hands on workshop to appreciate how much work goes into it. We were a group of 12 with 6 kids between 10-14 years and they loved the activity – must do for families. Hassan was a great host, provided clean transportation (17 seater) and easy directions for the meetup point. Best part – we took home the tiles we worked on as souvenirs.
Hassan was possibly the most enthusiastic experience guide I’ve ever had on a trip! We learned so much about the history of art and architecture in Marrakech and Morocco – and that was a bonus on top of the actual experience of learning about traditional tile making from local tile makers. Great experience for anyone interested in seeing parts of Marrakech you might not normally see and getting a hands on learning experience from masters at a beautiful traditional craft.
We had the most wonderful tiles workshop hosted by the brilliant Hassan and team.
Everything ran without a hitch, with Hassan providing excellent communications in the run up to and on the day. Even going the extra mile to help us with securing a venue for dinner that evening too.
Hassan’s passion for all things Morocco shines through. This isn’t just a tiles workshop, this is an immersion into the city!
The team supporting the tile making were artisans who patiently and generously shared their love of their craft. We shared mint tea and many laughs during the morning together!
We are thrilled with the results of our handiwork, and the experience was the highlight of our long weekend.
Thank you Hassan and team!
This workshop was a really fun and unique way to understand Moroccan culture, art and traditions. It’s very interactive and fun. Our host Hassan was extremely kind and knowledgeable and even helped us set up some other activities to do that day. I highly recommend this activity for anyone that is spending time in Marrakech and look for something unique to do.
Hassan is a truly special host: with him, you can discover not only a hidden Marrakesh, made up of very talented and hospitable artisans, but also his passion for art, for experiences, his extreme expertise in the field of art, and his humanity. The conversation was very pleasant. He always took care of us with attention, offered us delicious homemade desserts, the inevitable tea, and of course explained in detail every step in the creation of the zellige, which we will take home as a souvenir of this precious experience with the locals. You will visit a non-touristy part of the city, made up of people who are rich in spirit and who work many hours a day to create unique, colorful and wonderful works of art. A unique experience, highly recommended.
This experience was unforgettable. We had a nice drive with Hassan explaining so many things about the city and art. He showed us mini shops where artisans worked to create their amazing pieces. Then we reached our location and met the other tile makers. Working together, they all helped us to create a beautiful tile and learn all the parts of the process. They were kind, funny, and very knowledgeable.
If you’re looking for an unforgettable experience in Morocco, you’ve just found it. This workshop is much more than a class. It’s the experience of a centuries-old craft in a unique opportunity. Taking a Zellige piece home will be a special memory for a lifetime. Be lucky enough to book this experience with Hassan! We loved it!
I had a fantastic experience with Hassan and the very friendly and skilled artisans at this Zellij workshop in the suburbs of Marrakech. The group was small and fun, and Hassan told us many interesting things about the art, architecture, and culture of Marrakech and Morocco that I would hardly have discovered on my own. He was always helpful and friendly, and his energy is contagious. You can see that he really loves sharing the culture of his country! We designed and cut some Zellij, and even for those who are not very skilled, it becomes easy due to the welcoming and patient atmosphere. I brought a small tile panel that is a beautiful souvenir. It was one of the experiences I liked the most on my trip to Marrakech. I recommend it 100%!
It was an extremely special experience to learn from the masters of the art of Moroccan tiles and to see how difficult and incredible this technique is. Hassan is very articulate and provides information about absolutely everything. An unforgettable experience.

Thank you Hassan and team!
Hassan was a great guide with knowledge about local history and architecture and provided an intimate experience with the local tile makers that included pick up and drop off, home made tea and pastries, and a hands on overview of the skilled and laborious tile making process these artists have been perfecting over generations. It gave me an appreciation for the amount of time and skill it takes to create the beautiful tiles seen throughout the city. Would recommend to anyone looking to have a relaxing time out of the city center and get behind the scenes look of how Moroccan Zellige tiles are made.

Thank you so much for organising the tile making course for us while we were in Marrakesh. Hassan couldn’t have been more helpful offering great restaurants and cultural recommendations while we were there. Brahim was also so amazing – giving us a little history on the way to the tile making course and going through every step of the process! We were shown how to cut the tiles and tried it for ourselves! It is a lot trickier than it looks!! Could t have picked a better activity to do. We all really felt like we learned more about the craftsmanships of Morocco and I would recommend this to everyone I know!
Seeing tile workshops was my goal for my trip to Morocco.
I had only seen how to make Zellige tiles on YouTube and images. I was really impressed to finally see that in person.
Drawing lines, cutting with a hammer. Putting them together. I felt again that this cannot be done with a machine. When I saw the masters and craftsmen doing it, it looked so fast and easy. But when I tried it, it was very, very difficult. It is difficult to draw a straight line because it is pottery. I had to figure out how many pieces I could make from a square. I thought it would take me a long time to master it.
Everyone kindly showed me the example and taught me how to do it. That made me very happy.
This experience was really valuable for me. And I decided to come back to Morocco to become a tile maker again.
